What is Acupuncture

It is Ancient Healing Art from Traditional Chinese Medicine that you can experience at our Auckland Acupuncture clinic.

Acupuncture, an integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), boasts a rich history spanning over 3,000 years.

It is a complementary therapy that involves the insertion of very thin needles into specific points (acupoints) on the body where connect the specific organ to stimulate
the flow of energy.

By stimulating these acupoints, acupuncture restores the balance of qi, improves organ function, boost immunity, and acts as a preventive measure against diseases.

It's strength lies in its proactive approach to addressing imbalances before they manifest as physical symptoms.

Benefits of Acupuncture: Your Path to Wellness

  • Pain relief: Acupuncture targets pain by stimulating acupoints, releasing natural pain-relievers like endorphins. From musculoskeletal pain to migraines, it offers relief for acute and chronic discomfort.

  • Stress reduction: With a calming effect on the nervous system, acupuncture alleviates stress and anxiety, promoting relaxation and enhancing overall well-being.

  • Enhanced function: Improve physical performance through better circulation, reduced inflammation, and musculoskeletal balance, leading to increased flexibility and range of motion.

  • Mental health support: Address depression, anxiety, and insomnia by regulating neurotransmitters and hormones, fostering emotional balance and restful sleep.

  • Immunity boost: Restoring qi balance and organ function, acupuncture strengthens the immune system, bolstering your bodies defences.

  • Digestive harmony: Alleviate issues like acid reflux, IBS, bloating, constipation an nausea by regulating digestive function, promoting healthier digestion.

  • Women's health: From menstrual irregularities to menopause symptoms, acupuncture supports reproductive health by regulating hormones and addressing discomforts.

How Acupuncture Works

Acupuncture includes a range of procedures that involve the stimulation of acupoints on the body using a variety of techniques.

The aim of doing this is to activate the self-healing ability of the body by improving the flow of energy and nutrients, which then promotes recovery from injury, restores balance in the body and maintains well- being.

Acupuncture can assist and addressing various health conditions by restoring the flow of Qi through the meridians.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory, blockage of energy can, over time, accumulate as a mass.

For example, since the Liver meridian runs through the pelvis and has a link to the breast, in women this can manifest in the development of ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids and endometriosis to name a few conditions. Acupuncture is an excellent tool for addressing constrained Liver qi.

One acupuncture session does NOT usually result in relief of pain. One or two sessions a week for five to six weeks is the normal treatment course.

Your physician will discuss with you how many treatments you should have and how often you should have them.
